We are all in the same battle. We are all against the one common enemy. We are all looking to the eyes of one, merciful and loving father. Perseverance is what we read about here. Keeping our feet grounded in the faith that no matter what comes our way, we are rooted in Him and confident in the mission He has set before us.
- Read 1 Peter 5
This passage is great to read in the New Living Translation
- Devotional Thought
When you set out to follow anyone, you know that by setting your eyes on their life and what they do and believe will in some way shape and form, mold your life to theirs. So when we look at the lives of Christians living for Christ, with their sights set on Him, we should not be srprised when opposition is set before them.
We should not be working for our own gain, to get things for ourselves out of our work on this side of heaven, but only to grow closer to Him and to Bring others to Him. You don’t work for honour here so when you don’t receive it when it may usually be expected, do not be disheartened because approval here was not designed for you anyway. Humbling yourself to the power of God and His directions for your life isn’t passive. Rather it’s an active and intentional attitude to take into every waking hour because there is a real enemy who is alive and looking for your slacking off so that he can come in a make a mess. But know that you already have to power to overcome him because of the power entrusted to you by your Father in heaven.
So when trouble comes or you are resisted and opposed, use it as an opportunity to rejoice. To know that you have authority by the God in Heaven to overcome every shadow of darkness that may come against you to stop you. Take great care in the road that He has set you on, knowing that He has paved the way already and has all the power you need!
- Passage to focus on
“Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”
1 Peter 5:2, 6-10 NLT

Care for what the Lord has entrusted to you today!
- Prayer
Father God,
Thank you for your care, your guidance and your love. Thank you that nothing you lead us to set out to do is beyond our ability because you have prepared us in advance to overcome it all. When we face opposition and struggle, help us to lean onto you, to look to you and to never be overcome and overwhelmed by what we see becuase our eyes are so firmly fixed on you!
It's in your name we pray.
- Active idea
