Holy Week ~ Wednesday

Updated: Feb 16, 2024

Self-centeredness and selfishness causes you to forget reasoning. The crowd were under the influence of the priests and because the priests wanted Jesus dead for their own sake, there was no other reasoning behind them calling out for His crucifixion. And when they caused the crowd to shout for Barabbas’ s release prior Jesus’ crucifixion, there was no reason given... Because we weren’t designed for self-canteredness, there is no reason for our self-centeredness and therefore there is no understanding. It created a numb persona, a cold thinking that one knows best when truly they don't.

- Read Luke 23vs1~25

In the New International Version

- Devotional Thought

I couldn’t imagine how the crowd could’ve asked for a murderer instead of our Jesus. And yet Pilate, knowing that He was innocent, passed Him over.

Even back then, we see the power of influence and peer pressure on everyone, including those with positions in high places.

When we find ourselves tempted to listen to those seeking to hurt instead of aiding with the truth, may we be convicted to keep to the side of truth. Jesus had been given a chance by Pilate to ‘redeem’ himself in the eyes of the authorities and yet He didn’t defend or try correct their thoughts on him. He knew the truth and he stayed with it. If the crowd could’ve understood that unlike their selfish intent, Jesus wasn’t changing His statement. If they understood that he wasn’t changing to please them, maybe they could see that the truth doesn’t change according to feelings, it sticks to the one who spoke the Truth. And the truth of the Gospel won’t change to accommodate you, you just pray for the heart to change yourself

- Passage to focus on

“Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭20‬-‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

- Prayer

Father, your Word is the beginning and the end. Alpha and Omega and nothing can ever affect that. Help us to remember that again today as we prepare for the Easter Weekend, where you spoke the truth, despite what it resulted in, you spoke the truth.

- Active idea

Exchange truths for lies. What are some of the lies the enemy keeps edging you to believe about the Word that you know aren’t lining up with God’s Word? Talk to Him about it and about how to overcome it.

Thank you for joining me today! Hope to see you again soon!

Have a blessed Lent
