Surviving a Waiting Season

There's both a speed and a lull in life. Sometimes it feels like the waves crash one after the other, after the other, after the other.... and sometimes it feels like the current has gone and another set will never come again. And waiting for that set to come often feels like a surfer decided to sit up from lying in order to peer into the horizon.

A waiting season is hard. It tests your faith and it can distract you.


Without doubt, you'll have days when you're not doing things that fill your heart. Your job will be to pay the bills, you may not have time for your friends, you may not even have the capacity to work on the things you love doing.

But you know it's just a season because as Christians we know that God has good plans for us.


So how do you survive that season with a smile?

How do you rejoice when yo don't see an outcome?

How do you grow your faith when it feels like God has forgotten?

Find the importance in your daily 'mundane'

You could pass you days just getting by or you can make a list of necessary things that help you feel accoumplished.

Your to-do list matters! Some days it might just be making your bed and remembering to eat and others it could be a trip to the bank or grocery shopping. Your day wouldn't be a day if there weren't the mundane things to do. But you can make them important.

If you're someone who dreads your morning alarm... remember that the sound of the alarm is a reminder that you woke up this morning!

Embrace the environment you’re in 

You could sit wishing you were someplace else or with someone else. But the reality is that God has put you where you are for such a time as this. Go outside, smell the fresh air. Look at the flowers along the road, chase the sunset. Find local shops to browse. Mkake friends with the barista near your house. Be present by remembering that being present isn't accumulating but appreciating.

Become an expert in your field of dreams

Learning is never wasted. Now's your time to become an expert in your field of dreams. Reasearch. Look things up. Grow, learn, discover, read, ask, think, dream.

Make your routine a joy 

Don't look forward to waking up? Then change what you wake up to! You always have the choice. You have the power to cultivate a routine that plants joy. You are the one you have to spend the rest of your life with... you might as well enjoy what that looks like now!

Resist jealousy by celebrating others

Someone else's win doesn't mean you've suffered a loss! Celebrating someone else and cheering the ones next to you along when they step 'ahead' of you grows your kindness and compassion. There is in fact research that shows that helping others and being kind to others will imporve your own chance of healing/improvement by high percentages!

Worship each time you feel inclined to worry

When will we eventually take seriously the fact that the flowers of the fields and the birds of the air do not strive or search or stress and yet they are clothed and fed day after day??!!

How much MORE IMPORTANT are you then them? Don't you trust your heavenly Father to take care of you? If He clothes the birds of the sky and the flowers of the field, don't you believe that the same creator of the UNIVERSE will take care of you!?


When you relise deep within that the creator of the Universe loves you and cares for you, that love will well up inside of you and overflow the banks of your heart to bless others. The Bible talks of many ways in which we can dilligently get on with life in the mundane and that can gloriously transofrm our why - the why that brings true life to your heart. Jesus is the only one who can plant a compelling why to your mundane what.


Lean into realising the reality of God's perspective. The times and seasons that we don't understand or enjoy very much may very well be the ones that God has the greatest plans for. When you grow closer to Him through testing times, you grow stronger in your confidence to endure.

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
