Fifth Week of Lent ~ Thursday

Updated: Feb 16, 2024

What do you think Jesus must have been feeling as He walked to the cross? To be sent for a death He didn’t deserve and to have His fathers face turned away from Him as such darkness came over the earth.

He knew the end from the beginning yet being fully man and fully God, how did he feel and think in His flesh in those last moments....

- Read Psalm 22

In the New International Version

- Devotional Thought

These words of David’s model the words that Jesus cried out as he hung on the cross. In a place of such darkness and such a feeling of final death comes the great joy that we know of as Easter. But on that first good Friday, it couldn’t have looked very good to those who were around Jesus. We know the outcome, but they didn’t… when Jesus cried out “it is finished” what would’ve come through their mind? What would they have thought is “finished”.

Doesn’t it show us that even when times look the darkest, God is still working. When it looked like he had deserted the Israelites, when David was pursued by his enemies and when Jesus hung on the cross… it looked dead.

But because our God is a transcendent God

- Passage to focus on

"All the rich of the earth will feast and worship;

all who go down to the dust will kneel before him

those who cannot keep themselves alive.

Posterity will serve him;

future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness,

declaring to a people yet unborn:

He has done it!"

Psalm 22 vs28~31

- Image for today

When a caterpillar goes into it's cacoon... it may look like the end... but it's not, it's only the beginning of a beautiful new life.

- Prayer

Lord God,

We thank you for your sacrifice on the cross.

We are thankful and yet we couldn't comprehend what you went through.

We pray that our thankfulness will only ever grow, and with our thankfulness we pray that our love for you will also only ever grow.

- Active idea

Write all the things you are thankful for in the butterfly wings. And on the catterpillar - write the things you need to let go of. Then journal a prayer to ask the Lord to guide you in how you can hold onto thankfulness and gratitude more during your day.

Thank you for joining me today! Hope to see you again soon!

Have a blessed Lent
