Sixth Week of Lent ~ Saturday

​Before Jesus came, many people thought that the Messiah would be of military means. That He would come with an army and wipe away the Romans, that He would demolish their slavery and place them above their enemies, ruling in the land. It would’ve been easy to misread a passage with a prophecy such as this on in Zechariah, and today we’ll read why…

Behold, the King is coming.

But the King is coming on a lowly donkey.

Jesus came to break so many boundaries of religion and that meant breaking the idea of a military defeat. Although this Scripture mentions armies and victory, it's not in the sense that people anticipated. Instead, Jesus came to bring the upside down kingdom! The one that accepts the outcast and broken. That heals the sick and the one that loves despite all else.

So when Jesus didn't make action to form an actual army, people didn't know what to expect of Him. ANd one of the clearest times of that was Palm Sunday which we will celebrate tomorrow. Where Jesus rides in on a donkey!

What other King would lower themselves to a donkey when they could choose a stallion horse...? Well, the one that isn't distracted by the outward appearance so long as the inward is clean and pure!

​“Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.”

Our Dear Lord God,

We are constantly amazed by the way that you defy the stereotypes, you oppose all our limiting factors. We pray that you will open our eyes to see how you are beyond our limiting minds. We want to experience the fullness of life with you in our everyday and we know that we have to release you to blow our minds!

- Active idea

Look back over your life and remind yourself of times when Jesus has broken the limits of you idea of what you thought He would do in your life. He always exceeds our expectation! And reminding yourself of what He has done is the best way to remind yourself that He can always do more!
